Speaker:Welcome back to the Wealth Witches podcast. Today, we have a

Speaker:She is Dallas based with an international clientele where she lives with her husband and
Speaker:their rescue dog, Ruby. Amanda, thank you so much. I'm
Speaker:so excited to chat all things Shway for your business
Speaker:today. Oh, I'm so excited to be here, and I'm excited
Speaker:to talk Shway. It's always my favorite conversation and
Speaker:to get into the money part of it because everyone loves those
Speaker:tip. I mean, who doesn't? Right? Who doesn't want to set themselves
Speaker:up for more money, success, everything else? So I actually we
Speaker:didn't even cover that I was gonna ask you this, but I would love to
Speaker:know how you even got started in this world.
Speaker:Oh my gosh. This is such a great story. So if you wanna hear the
Speaker:long version of it, I have, like, one of the first podcasts that I
Speaker:did, one of the first episodes dedicated to it. But the short version of it
Speaker:is, you need to know, I came in as a complete skeptic,
Speaker:almost a little bit snobby. Like, I was in a
Speaker:bad situation in a home that we had just bought. Like, everything in my
Speaker:life felt like it was going wrong. I you know, we
Speaker:have grown twin daughters who are now at some school, but at the time they
Speaker:were 3, my husband was traveling, and it just felt like
Speaker:things were not coming together in this new to us space. And
Speaker:so I grabbed a book, treated it like an oracle because, you know, we didn't
Speaker:have oracle cards way back when, or they weren't as
Speaker:mainstream, I should say. And I opened in, it said feng shui. And sort of
Speaker:the gist was if you change your house, your life will change. And I was
Speaker:like, well, I just changed my house. And, you know, not
Speaker:making the correlation that it actually could be the very
Speaker:reason that things had taken a hard left turn. So, anyway,
Speaker:I thought, well, I'm very academic. You know, I was fresh out of grad school,
Speaker:and I was like, I'm gonna approach this with sort of that cerebral, you know,
Speaker:mindset, and I'm gonna try things out, and I'm gonna blog about
Speaker:it. And, you know, the the the short version of
Speaker:this is it wasn't that thing changed. Anything changed
Speaker:instantly, but I was curious to keep trying more things
Speaker:because our house was feeling more like a home. And there
Speaker:were, I would say within a few months, some big changes that got my
Speaker:attention. And then I did another test round, just because I
Speaker:wasn't gonna be persuaded. I thought it was all coincidental.
Speaker:Mhmm. But I, you know, did one last test round, and it
Speaker:was a big enough, you know, situation that
Speaker:it got my attention. I thought, well, I can continue being the skeptic
Speaker:or, like, I could get really curious and figure out what's going on here, and
Speaker:that's how I started out. That's why we're here today. I love
Speaker:that so much. And, yes, the the way back in the day when you had
Speaker:to actually open a book and do some, you know, manual research, so
Speaker:you couldn't just go Google everything. Yeah.
Speaker:Oh, okay. So that's that's really, really cool. And now
Speaker:what you're working on is simple shui. Like, that's the the
Speaker:whole, like, how we can be bringing elements of Feng
Speaker:Shui into your life. And I've been following you on Instagram for a while
Speaker:now since I think before Robin had even connected us. And
Speaker:you post such actionable tips. And for
Speaker:someone that is creative, but very left brained
Speaker:and analytical, I love that because they're short, they're to the point,
Speaker:they're actionable. So what was the idea behind
Speaker:Simple Shway? So I love that question.
Speaker:So I came into it reading everything. You you know, you bring up Once Upon
Speaker:Time, We Had to Crack a Book. I love books. And, you know, this was
Speaker:kind of before Amazon, so I was going to whatever the
Speaker:bookstores were. I was going to the used bookstores to find anything I
Speaker:could read about feng shui. I would write letters
Speaker:or call people who like the authors who are brave enough, you know, to
Speaker:leave that information, and I just started, you know, feasting on
Speaker:whatever was available. And one of my first consultants, because
Speaker:I have had consultants, you know, in our home, one of my first consultants
Speaker:was Ellen Whitehurst, and she was generous enough
Speaker:to, let me write for her
Speaker:blog. Right? So she had been in Red Book. She had a book published.
Speaker:She, you know, worked with a lot of New York socialites and that kind
Speaker:of stuff, so I thought, oh, this is fantastic. I'm just going to
Speaker:start, you know, functioning people now. And she's like, well, pump
Speaker:the brakes, sweetie. Like, you think you know, but do
Speaker:you? And luckily, she kind of turned me the direction I need to
Speaker:go, which was to find a certification. So after that first certification,
Speaker:again, here I am feeling legit, I write this article for
Speaker:Mindbody Green. It goes viral. And, of course, a lot
Speaker:of old school practitioners come out, and they're like, that's not really feng shui that
Speaker:you're practicing. And I was I was really horrified,
Speaker:and I thought, okay. What is this real Feng Shui? So I
Speaker:went back to school, and I learned some
Speaker:of the older practices that have just continued to all of
Speaker:Feng Shui has evolved. Right? But I started learning some of
Speaker:those and got certified. And what I realized in that
Speaker:whole experience was this. So many of us find something on
Speaker:Google School or we, you know, hear someone who
Speaker:suggests something and we go to try it, and there's no context or infrastructure.
Speaker:And, really, we're just cannonballing into we don't even know what,
Speaker:hoping that because we don't understand it, it's gonna work. When in reality,
Speaker:there are really practical steps, very simple things we
Speaker:can do that are going to be in service to
Speaker:us far more than that super esoteric thing that you happen to come
Speaker:across. And that's how simple Shui began. I love
Speaker:that. So diving into the meat and potatoes, for
Speaker:lack of a better phrase, the episode, when we're looking
Speaker:at using or utilizing I hate to say using. So utilizing
Speaker:Feng Shui for our business, for
Speaker:prosperity, like, what what should we even be like, how should we be
Speaker:framing that? Like, where should we be setting the groundwork to be
Speaker:in a good spot to be, like, thinking about what we want to be bringing
Speaker:more of or less of into our lives? I mean, there
Speaker:are so many things that people can do and I again, I think that they're
Speaker:really simple. I think we tend to just it's it's common. We over
Speaker:complicate as much and want it to be complicated and sexy when it can really
Speaker:just be simple and actionable and consistent. Yes.
Speaker:Absolutely. So what I tell people is, you know, just because
Speaker:it sounds simple doesn't mean it's gonna be easy. Right? And
Speaker:so what I like to tell people is, like, let's
Speaker:get to know what your home means. And right
Speaker:off from the start, you know, there are 3 areas of your home that
Speaker:are so important in terms of what they are contributing, your front
Speaker:door, your bedroom, and your kitchen. Sometimes they're referred to
Speaker:as power spots in feng shui. And, again, I love this as a starting point
Speaker:because, usually, there is an access point for almost
Speaker:anyone. Right? And so the front door, you know, real quickly,
Speaker:if you think about the term curb appeal and how people make
Speaker:knee jerk assumptions about a home based on how it
Speaker:presents, that is what the front door is doing
Speaker:for you. So, you know, when we're talking about bringing in more
Speaker:opportunity, actualizing or manifesting or creating, you
Speaker:know, it starts at the front door because when you think about it, everything we're
Speaker:calling into our lives enters through this portal, and
Speaker:so the quality of that opportunity is being informed by what's
Speaker:happening in this space. So doing things like shaking out your mat,
Speaker:sweeping, wiping down the door, wiping down the hardware, replacing
Speaker:the light bulbs, you know, trimming away anything that is
Speaker:struggling or has since died. Right? Any of
Speaker:that will improve the chi, which then informs
Speaker:and influences the quality of energy that not only enters your
Speaker:space, but then is traveling through all the different areas of
Speaker:your life because your home represents all the different areas of your life. So
Speaker:there those are just like that's a weekend project. Super easy.
Speaker:And, you know, I always love to tell people, you know, once you do that,
Speaker:set the intention and, like, maybe blow some cinnamon in through your
Speaker:front door or, you know, put some coins and a red
Speaker:envelope inside that under the doormat, and it's very suggestive of money
Speaker:walking into your life. But you can't blow the cinnamon and you can't put the
Speaker:coins there until you've prepared the space for success. And,
Speaker:again, I think that's where people get ahead of themselves. Mhmm. They hurry and
Speaker:do the little ditty that they just read or heard, and they don't think about
Speaker:really optimizing. And I know we're all tired of that word, but, you know, really
Speaker:preparing the space for the best outcome
Speaker:that's possible. Right? So front door is the first one.
Speaker:Kitchen is so symbolic of your well-being
Speaker:and your health, and that extends to your financial well-being and health.
Speaker:So what I see in kitchens is people have everything out on the counters,
Speaker:and there's literally no room to receive whatever it is you're trying to call into
Speaker:your life. So taking a quick audit, like, what do we actually
Speaker:use? What do we actually need? And can we find somewhere for other things? Because
Speaker:having landing spaces in your kitchen, that's a big deal when
Speaker:you're trying to call in not only new ideas or opportunities,
Speaker:but also solutions or ways of seeing things differently that'll help you
Speaker:move through or navigate challenges. I'm a
Speaker:big fan of having something fresh in that space, so, like,
Speaker:fresh fruit or flowers because, again, this is talking about your health,
Speaker:and that health umbrella is pretty big. So things that are healthy and
Speaker:thriving mean that you will too. And my favorite sort of
Speaker:magic with the kitchen is stoke those burners on your
Speaker:stove once a day for, like, 9 days or 27 days. A
Speaker:fantastic way to really speak to stoking
Speaker:prosperity and opportunities. Oh, wow. Okay. Yeah. And warming
Speaker:up a kitchen Mhmm. Actually, you know, sort of has a lot of overlap
Speaker:in other cultures in terms of how people feel in your home.
Speaker:So there's a lot of win just with that. Right? And when we talk about
Speaker:how other people feel, know, if you're somebody who's trying to call in a relationship,
Speaker:great tip. If you're trying to call in collaborators or networking,
Speaker:great tip. It can also be just stoking the opportunity to make more
Speaker:money. And then finally, the bedroom, this is all about you. So
Speaker:what I have found in all the time that I've done this is a lot
Speaker:of time is to be put ourselves last on that list. We take care of
Speaker:all the other areas of our home because that's what people
Speaker:see, and that's what we're you know, we have the opportunity to impress people.
Speaker:But the reality of it is if we're not prioritizing ourselves,
Speaker:then no one else is gonna prioritize us. Right? And so
Speaker:being mindful about what you keep company with in your bedroom,
Speaker:this is an interesting exercise. Like, you know, do you have a bunch of self
Speaker:help books stacked by the bed? Do you have a bunch of, like, you
Speaker:know, creams and, you know, gadgets to help make you look
Speaker:younger? You know, like, what is the messaging that's happening in
Speaker:your room? And the reason that this is so
Speaker:imperative is we are in our beds, most
Speaker:of us, for a third of our lives. The closer we are to something, the
Speaker:stronger its influence or so, long as she says. And so
Speaker:when we are under the constant influence of these things that are saying not
Speaker:enough, try harder, do better, we
Speaker:are we're creating the resistance ourselves. So I like to say
Speaker:it's okay to have things pile up and it's okay to be in those,
Speaker:you know, sort of swells of big thinking,
Speaker:but when you start to feel the resistance, when you start to
Speaker:feel the drag, take some of those things out, remove them, and be
Speaker:really, really, you know, mindful about who you're
Speaker:sleeping with. And my favorite thing in terms of money
Speaker:making is, you know, to get
Speaker:a red envelope or you could get 9 red envelopes.
Speaker:We're gonna use the function map, the baguette here. Imagine
Speaker:you're bad in a Tic Tac Toe board. Okay?
Speaker:Money, it doesn't matter what the denomination is current like, if you have coins, you
Speaker:have dollars, whatever you want, put some money in each of those red
Speaker:envelopes, and then put them underneath your mattress between your
Speaker:mattress and box spring, your mattress and your bed. And, you know, as
Speaker:you put those, I would sort of set some intentions. And then the
Speaker:idea here is that you're making money while you sleep. So, I mean, really
Speaker:fun stuff. But, again, just like the front door, the same applies to the kitchen,
Speaker:the same applies to the bedroom. You gotta do all the other work. Mhmm. Before
Speaker:that, just the quick and easy put the envelopes and the intention, we need to
Speaker:set the stage, prep. I'm assuming clean, wipe down,
Speaker:declutter. Yeah. I think a lot of times, you know, I
Speaker:tell the story often of when I first started out, people would say to me,
Speaker:like, I waived the smoke stick and, you know, nothing changed. And I would
Speaker:look at their spaces, and I'd be like, but look at the chaos
Speaker:that's still there. Like, you can't just co opt all responsibility
Speaker:on these tools and, you know,
Speaker:resources. Like, you have to cooperate. Your edification is
Speaker:required too. It doesn't just yeah. Yeah. There
Speaker:needs to be some some buy ins and effort put in, not just,
Speaker:literally, as you were talking about the kitchen, I was envisioning what my kitchen
Speaker:currently looks like being in the middle of harvest season with an abundance
Speaker:of fruits and vegetables, but that also means there are canning jars
Speaker:everywhere, and there is clutter everywhere. And it stresses me out.
Speaker:I'm like, oh, we're almost there. We're almost there. We have a couple of days.
Speaker:I am so excited when I'm done canning to be able to go fresh slate
Speaker:everything. I just go to the farmer's market tomorrow. I'm gonna get some flowers,
Speaker:get that all set up, and I just I'm already preemptively excited for,
Speaker:like, how good that will feel. Yeah. And I, you know, I
Speaker:think you bring up something that's really important for people to understand. It's
Speaker:okay. Like, life is messy and then there's the cleanup, and
Speaker:life is messy and there's a cleanup. So people sometimes will reach out in a
Speaker:panic, like, oh my gosh, we're in the middle of moving and how bad is
Speaker:this? It's not bad. Like, you're just in the process of moving. It's
Speaker:when things stagnate, when this is just the way of being
Speaker:that we start to get curious. And instead of judging something as
Speaker:bad, I like to reframe it. Like, where is there an opportunity
Speaker:for improvement? Absolutely. Yeah. Yeah.
Speaker:No. I I think being able to embrace the seasonality and where you're at in
Speaker:life, and then great. If my kitchen
Speaker:counter had canning jars on it year round and it was completely covered,
Speaker:I would probably not feel my greatest.
Speaker:That tends to happen in my office. The office is where things go to die
Speaker:and clutter. And so I'm I'm gonna yeah. We're we're going to be making some
Speaker:strides on that this weekend because there is definitely stagnation of
Speaker:receipts and clutter and Yeah. And crystals and weird
Speaker:tile, and not in places where I want them. And, yeah, I I love that.
Speaker:Okay. So super actionable. Cleaning,
Speaker:wiping down, updating, sprucing up
Speaker:the front door, the entryway, the curb appeal side of things
Speaker:so that we have, we make the way for prosperity to
Speaker:enter. We have just this really lovely intentions that we're not
Speaker:just putting a red envelope under the mat, blowing cinnamon in, and being
Speaker:like, okay. Done. I did the work. We're good. We're going to lay
Speaker:the groundwork. Yes. Lay the groundwork. I think that that is
Speaker:lovely. And one actionable thing that you could totally do over the weekend or even
Speaker:depending I mean, at our house, we could do it in, like, a day because
Speaker:we don't we live in the mountains. There's not a whole lot of, like, plants
Speaker:needing to be manicured or things need to be taken care of.
Speaker:Woah. That would imply. So for most people, this
Speaker:I love the front door makeover because it really does
Speaker:feel, like, possible for everyone. It doesn't
Speaker:feel like it's an enormous amount of space that you have to try to figure
Speaker:out how to make the space work. A front door is pretty straightforward.
Speaker:The other thing that I will say that I love for the front door, and
Speaker:if you're in my world for even 2 seconds, you know this,
Speaker:you can always step out and just sweep, and it really
Speaker:is that ritual of out with the old and with the new. So once you've
Speaker:done sort of the, you know, giving it the
Speaker:sprucing up and you belong the sentiment or you put some money
Speaker:under the mat, going out with some sort of
Speaker:consistency that's realistic for you and sweeping is the way of then
Speaker:creating that connective tissue, which is the maintenance of making
Speaker:it remain welcoming. Right? And making
Speaker:sure that you are really
Speaker:being as inviting as you can. And by the way, that article I
Speaker:mentioned, you know, in the story of, you know, this article that went viral,
Speaker:my very first one from Mindbodygreen was on the power of sleeping.
Speaker:And it you know, I've heard so many crazy stories. So
Speaker:again, when people are, like, sweeping, really? I'm, like, try it. See what happens.
Speaker:That's yeah. That's wild. Just the the again, the
Speaker:simplest things that we could be doing to just connect with
Speaker:intentionally Mhmm. To bring more
Speaker:prosperity, to bring more opportunities into our lives.
Speaker:When out of curiosity, I because I don't know the answer to this question. So,
Speaker:like, let's say, we've taken the time, we've taken the intention, we've we've really
Speaker:decided that the kitchen, the front door at the bedroom are
Speaker:going to be our areas of focus. Right? Because you've made this so straightforward and
Speaker:actionable. We get that taken care of. What sort of because you
Speaker:mentioned a maintenance schedule or, like, you know, a schedule that works. What
Speaker:does your feng shui practice look like from a time commitment
Speaker:wise for you? And, obviously, you've been practicing this for years. So I'm
Speaker:assuming you have some sort of routine set up. I know we're just talking about
Speaker:3 areas. But what does that look like on, like, a long
Speaker:term maintenance perspective in your life? Yeah. So I think
Speaker:it's like anything, you know, that you commit to doing.
Speaker:The longer you practice it, the more sort of 6th sense
Speaker:or muscle memory you build around it. So my friend,
Speaker:door, I mean, it has the ebbs and flows. Like, right now, there's a
Speaker:mat out there that definitely needs to be replaced, and it's sitting right in front
Speaker:of me, and it's gonna be done this weekend. But I was actually
Speaker:waiting for some of the temps to cool. So it's like I'm
Speaker:constantly let me say this. When you come into feng
Speaker:shui, in my world, one of the first invitations that I
Speaker:sent is I want you to now see your home as a
Speaker:living, breathing family member. Because
Speaker:when we start to appreciate that this is an energy
Speaker:that we are part of, it's not just part of our lives. We're actually
Speaker:also part of this home's life, and a lot of these homes will outlive us.
Speaker:Right? You start to, 1, step into a much different
Speaker:conversation with your space, and you do feel more
Speaker:inclined to take care of it when there
Speaker:are needs and demands. And in return, I
Speaker:think anything you do for your home is ultimately an act of self hospitality
Speaker:because it's just going to, you know, benefit you
Speaker:in ways that you probably aren't even making the connection to.
Speaker:Right? So when you start to get in that conversation, you are
Speaker:able to see where things are kind of getting loose and need a little bit
Speaker:of, you know, cleaning up or tending. So I have very much that
Speaker:ebb and flow. People make the, you know, the assumption that if they come to
Speaker:my house, it's so zen is something I hear a lot, that
Speaker:it's perfectly organized, that, you
Speaker:know, just whatever the assumptions are of someone
Speaker:who talks about space. You know, and I always tell people, like, I live with
Speaker:other people. Like, come on. Like, I'm not
Speaker:It's not just me. Here. Yeah. They they
Speaker:are, you know, adjacent to it, but that doesn't mean that they like,
Speaker:this is their love language too. So I have what I
Speaker:sort of think of as, like, nonnegotiable. It's like I'm not going to
Speaker:go to bed with my kitchen a mess. I have this
Speaker:ritual of walking the house before we go to sleep because I like
Speaker:to turn off lamps. Like, I just like to see and make sure that everything
Speaker:in the home is okay. Right? And it that sounds maybe be a little bit
Speaker:overboard, but I get up in the morning, open blinds, turn
Speaker:on lamps, do the things, and then I go back through in the evening the
Speaker:same thing. And it helps me stay on top of what's happening or what needs
Speaker:to be addressed or even, and this is something that's super subtle
Speaker:but can be powerful where the energy has started to feel a little bit
Speaker:more quiet. Right? So now with our girls off, you know, they're in
Speaker:Vancouver going to some school. With them gone, our house isn't
Speaker:getting the same level of engagement that it once did, and so I'm,
Speaker:you know, feeling my way through this and going, okay. We need to spend a
Speaker:little bit more time in here. So I'm you know, the in terms of the
Speaker:maintenance, there are certain rules I have that I follow, like,
Speaker:I don't let my front door get too far gone,
Speaker:right, in terms of, like, the weather. I'm in Texas. We get all sorts
Speaker:of storms, so I don't let the weather build up too much on the front
Speaker:door. Obviously, if light bulbs go out, those get replaced right
Speaker:away. If there are repairs, I'm pretty diligent about
Speaker:them, but I have a ton of books on my bed right now. Right? I
Speaker:mean, like, that's just you know, I go through phases and they
Speaker:stack up. Here we are. Right? So it all
Speaker:depends on what season I'm in. Okay. Okay. I
Speaker:love that. I I think it's really interesting sometimes
Speaker:because I will work with, you know, yoga practitioners
Speaker:or meditation practitioners, and everyone
Speaker:thinks, oh, you're just you're zen all the time. You're chill all the time. Like,
Speaker:you don't have we all have fluctuations. We all have seasonality. We are not
Speaker:all living in a vacuum with no outside influences
Speaker:around us. And so I think that it's really funny sometimes to have that reality
Speaker:check. I think it's almost similar to when you look at someone that you're, you
Speaker:know, maybe idolizing or someone that you see as being some star or
Speaker:coach or, and then you actually get to know them. And you're like, oh,
Speaker:you're you're human. You're fallible. Like, you have flaws and
Speaker:quirks and, oh, okay. Wow. That makes things
Speaker:a little bit different. So love how simple you
Speaker:have made this. And when we're thinking about
Speaker:we're doing this with our partners. Right? So, like, I have a spouse. Don't have
Speaker:any children, but we have cats and dogs and chickens and all sorts of
Speaker:creatures roaming in and around our house at any given time.
Speaker:What does that look like? Because I think a lot of the listeners have, you
Speaker:know, maybe a spouse or children, and I'm just envisioning, like,
Speaker:utilizing aspects of feng shui, especially when you have young
Speaker:children or even teenagers, and there's just a lot going on in
Speaker:the house. What sort of changes for you, or what are some of your nonnegotiables
Speaker:when that was your phase of life or for people that are in that phase
Speaker:of life? Yeah. So it's funny. This actually just
Speaker:came up in, one of my course classes yesterday,
Speaker:and, you know, someone was asking about, you know, sort of, like, the
Speaker:emo, you you know, gothic looking art in a
Speaker:teenage room. And then someone was asking about,
Speaker:little kids and trying to clean up their clutter. So here's the thing.
Speaker:You know, one of my very first teachers said you really can't function by other
Speaker:people, but you really probably shouldn't be functionally anyone over 10. And
Speaker:I know some people think, you know, you're just moving things
Speaker:around, and I think that's where, like, the first misconception happens is
Speaker:that people think that it is purely an aesthetic practice.
Speaker:You're actually working with energy. It's a very process,
Speaker:and it doesn't feel completely aligned to be doing something and
Speaker:setting intentions on someone else's behalf. So, generically
Speaker:or sort of universally, let me say this. With little kids and
Speaker:teenagers, hands off, I tell people there are
Speaker:reasons their rooms look the way they do. Little kids go out in the
Speaker:world. It's hella scary. I mean, can you really imagine being a
Speaker:5 year old stepping out to the world? All of these things that we're aware
Speaker:of, the things that happen at school, they come home and they create these
Speaker:nest that soothe their nervous systems, and we
Speaker:go in and we're like, that's clutter. You need to clean it up, and we
Speaker:try to make it look like it belongs on Pinterest. And we've completely
Speaker:stripped them of that nurturing that they are
Speaker:instinctually doing for themselves. So house rules,
Speaker:like, let's have a routine for putting things away at the end of the night,
Speaker:or let's make it so that, you know, schoolwork and, you know, some of
Speaker:the more yang activities are not in the bedroom, right, if
Speaker:we're worried about helping them sleep. But come up with your house rules
Speaker:and then just hands off. Right? And those rules can evolve, but
Speaker:don't try to control it because what's actually happening is much bigger
Speaker:than whatever your design preference is. In terms of teenagers,
Speaker:you know, the flip side of that is, you know, this is where they feel
Speaker:the most alive. Right? They have all this yang energy
Speaker:pulsating through their bodies, and yet they're told when they have to be in class,
Speaker:you know, if they can drive, you know, there's probably some parameters
Speaker:around that. They just don't have total freedom, and so they treat
Speaker:their rooms almost like a dumping zone. But what's happening,
Speaker:if that's helping to quell some of that energy that they
Speaker:don't have anywhere to channel it. Right? So when we go in and we're like,
Speaker:everything has to be cleaned up and, you know, it has to look a certain
Speaker:way, again, we are interfering with
Speaker:a soothing mechanism that they have found.
Speaker:So with teenagers, I say again, figure out some house rules.
Speaker:And a really great house rule that I think
Speaker:serves beyond the obvious is opening the blinds. Right?
Speaker:Kids love to sort of be in that cavernous room, letting the
Speaker:sunlight in once, so it's just cleansing the space, and 2,
Speaker:it's helping them feel less under the influence
Speaker:of some of the things that are happening. Right? And that doesn't feel
Speaker:like it's super disruptive Mhmm. To whatever they've got going on.
Speaker:So in terms of, like, spouses or say you live with your
Speaker:parents or anything like that, again, you can't feng shui other people. So what I
Speaker:what I suggest is work with what you have
Speaker:jurisdiction over. Meaning, you are starting
Speaker:to inform the energy
Speaker:to, you know, whether it's enhancing something or improving
Speaker:something. When we get worried about what everyone else is doing,
Speaker:it tells me that we don't trust what we're doing is gonna work, and
Speaker:therein lies the problem. It's not everyone else. So trusting that the
Speaker:things that we're doing to improve the chi
Speaker:is actually going to be a much better marketer or
Speaker:PR person for you than you going and wagging your finger. And
Speaker:here's the thing, feng shui is not transactional. You're not gonna sweep your porch
Speaker:tonight, and tomorrow, you're gonna have, like, 5 new job opportunities in your
Speaker:inbox. It might happen, but, you know, don't be
Speaker:surprised if it doesn't. But what happens is you are starting to
Speaker:make these deposits into your account, and those do
Speaker:compound. Those do add up. And there will be a point where you
Speaker:look back and you see some of these things that you've been doing and you
Speaker:can tell, oh my gosh. Like, we did kinda shift trajectories,
Speaker:or people stopped arguing, or I stopped getting this resistance,
Speaker:or we you know, some of the things that are getting in our way or
Speaker:we feel are disruptive to us, they tend to mellow or quiet. So
Speaker:you've gotta you gotta be willing to push your sleeves up and go a little
Speaker:bit of the distance and not be as, I don't
Speaker:know, in need of everyone's participation.
Speaker:There are so many purely financial parallels and
Speaker:just life parallels. I feel like with that, like, so
Speaker:many of our 2 millimeter
Speaker:changes add up over time and compound
Speaker:over time. That it may not be, like, I don't need to go
Speaker:out, cut my hair, dye a different color, change my entire
Speaker:wardrobe to start feeling like more of myself. I could.
Speaker:I can absolutely take some big drastic action, but I can also start
Speaker:taking steps today. And so much of that it also chills much
Speaker:more sustainable, renewable, long term, you
Speaker:know, possible for you to be doing. So what a wonderful way to look at
Speaker:that. I mean, truly, to keep things simple from the Feng Shui
Speaker:side of things, like, what an appropriate name. So for
Speaker:anyone that is wanting to learn
Speaker:more, maybe about simple Shui to begin with or Feng Shui in
Speaker:general because I know that I've heard Feng Shui tossed around
Speaker:for my entire life. Mhmm. It it's just kind of a
Speaker:household whether it's appropriate or how it's
Speaker:being spoken about, you know, is knowledgeable. Another
Speaker:topic conversation for another day. But
Speaker:I I think that having an understanding around it and part of, like, my
Speaker:understanding even with astrology this year is where are we
Speaker:working energetically? Where are we noticing and observing
Speaker:and being present in our own lives instead of going through
Speaker:the motions. And so much of this keeps feeling like
Speaker:it's telling us to be active observers in our
Speaker:lives instead of allowing or
Speaker:allowing ourselves to be the victim of our surroundings or the victim of our circumstances.
Speaker:Where where can we be noticing our part that we're playing in it? Where can
Speaker:we be noticing, like gonna look around my office right now and tell you
Speaker:right now that the energy is not the greatest in here, so I know what
Speaker:I'm doing this weekend. And I also know that
Speaker:whenever I clean things and I declutter, I feel
Speaker:so much better, so much clearer, so much more
Speaker:unburdened. And I think that the biggest takeaway for
Speaker:so many areas of our lives are being more present instead
Speaker:of and don't get me wrong. I'm all for a Netflix binge.
Speaker:But I think it's really easy to numb out, dull
Speaker:out, ignore, not pay attention, and just allow ourselves to be
Speaker:this passive observer instead of an active observer in what's
Speaker:what's occurring in our lives. Yeah. There are a lot of studies
Speaker:out there that just keep, you
Speaker:know, asserting that the where we
Speaker:live does affect our brains and our bodies. And I
Speaker:think, actually, you can look at that from a lot of different perspectives and make
Speaker:that same correlation. And so when you know that that is an
Speaker:influence that you're under and, again, like, think about it. You know? However
Speaker:many meals you eat at a fair, however often you work out, or however often
Speaker:you journal, you are in your space a lot. And
Speaker:so to, like you say, numb out or, you know,
Speaker:play victim to, like, well, I can't do that or I can't do that, There
Speaker:are so many opportunities within your space to improve how you feel,
Speaker:and, you know, you have to think thoughts, feelings, feelings
Speaker:drive behaviors, decisions, those drive your outcomes. So
Speaker:going into a space that feels good, like you just said, when you clear everything
Speaker:up, it feels so much better, imagine that being the
Speaker:energy that you're steeping in and then walking out into the world and what's possible.
Speaker:There's a reason we get dressed up to go on interviews or first
Speaker:dates. So when you apply that same sort
Speaker:of thought to, like, what can happen when and when I say
Speaker:dress up, I mean take care of your home like it actually represents you,
Speaker:that it feels more aligned with you, that it's suggesting what you want
Speaker:to be true if maybe it still is out of reach. Right?
Speaker:Any of those things are going to change how you show up in the world
Speaker:and how the world responds to you. So it's no small
Speaker:thing. No. It's it's really not. And I
Speaker:think that for so long,
Speaker:it has been so easy to live in the very traditional, like, masculine, you know,
Speaker:patriarchal view of, like, clocking in, you're clocking out, you're putting in the time.
Speaker:Nothing else has any sort of impact in what it's just you.
Speaker:It's all you drive, do the thing, you know, conquer the
Speaker:day. And this feels like one
Speaker:piece of such a larger puzzle when it comes to
Speaker:anti hustle culture and, you know, everything that's
Speaker:really felt like it's been getting traction for the last, I
Speaker:don't know, decade that it's finally being talked about more often
Speaker:in open circles instead of just, oh, that's that's
Speaker:just this wooing spiritual thing. That's just you know, it it just is what it
Speaker:is. Like, there's not that there needs to be science to back it, but, like,
Speaker:we're seeing so many more data points
Speaker:around how it is impacting our lives. Yeah. I mean,
Speaker:listen. I I think that, you know, there's so much
Speaker:design. We're so visually driven these days, you know,
Speaker:thanks to the shows and thanks to Pinterest and the glossy mags
Speaker:and all of these things. And I want to emphasize to people because I,
Speaker:you know, I think that there is this confusion that either feng shui
Speaker:oftentimes is minimalism. It's not. You're looking at my space. I
Speaker:definitely lean maximalist. And I think that
Speaker:people think that it is cost exhaustive.
Speaker:Right? And it's not. I mean, I think that's actually the wisdom
Speaker:and the beauty of feng shui is that so many of the practices don't
Speaker:cost anything. It's just about understanding how energy is moving through your space
Speaker:and working with what you have in a more intelligent,
Speaker:deliberate way. So, you know, if you're stepping into someone's world
Speaker:and they're saying you need this and this and this and this and this, maybe
Speaker:consider some other options before you dive full in and commit.
Speaker:Right? Because, honestly, when I go into anyone's homes, I'm looking
Speaker:for what's already working in their favor. We love to celebrate that. And then, 2,
Speaker:where are the easy wins? Because I'm all about creating momentum, and I'm
Speaker:about creating palpable feedback so that they understand,
Speaker:oh, wow. I have a lot of say here. I have a lot of influence
Speaker:in my space because I feel like that's a very validating experience, and it's
Speaker:much more likely that they will stay this path, understanding
Speaker:that whenever the weather hits, because it's gonna hit all of our
Speaker:lives, that they have action based steps they can take
Speaker:in their home to help weather that. Right? Like, they
Speaker:can navigate that with a little bit more confidence. Absolutely. And it doesn't
Speaker:have to be something that is overwhelming, all time consuming.
Speaker:I mean, even the the action points that you've been given for those 3 areas
Speaker:could be relatively inexpensive or
Speaker:free depending on what you're needing to do. Right? Like, there are definitely there's action
Speaker:you need to be taking, especially if you have budgetary constraints,
Speaker:and just cleaning, moving energy, like, taking
Speaker:care of the areas that you're in Yeah.
Speaker:Is so powerful and so intentional to come at it.
Speaker:So thank you. That was that was amazing. If
Speaker:if our listeners here were to take away
Speaker:the biggest or the couple of biggest takeaways from all
Speaker:of this, like, if they were never to
Speaker:dive further into Feng Shui, which we would all love them to dive further into
Speaker:Feng Shui, what would you tell them to make the
Speaker:biggest difference in their lives and their business? I'll tell you. It's what I started
Speaker:with. I want you to I'll give you a really quick exercise, and I promise
Speaker:I'll make this quick. I want you to think of your favorite place in your
Speaker:house, and I want you to just write down some words that
Speaker:come to mind, however you would describe it, but your favorite spot. It can be
Speaker:a bookshelf. It can be your desk. It can be a room. It can be
Speaker:a corner. K? Then I want you to think of a place in
Speaker:your house or your space that you don't love, that either
Speaker:it's just something you can't figure out how to make it work or it's never
Speaker:fully come together or there's a lot of stuff you need to do, but I
Speaker:want you to write down how that feels to you. And
Speaker:then if you haven't done this, I'm gonna say you need to hit pause because
Speaker:you can't really reverse engineer this.
Speaker:When you have those words, I want you to replace the space, the place, the
Speaker:room, the shelf, whatever it was, with I am.
Speaker:And those are all of your strengths. Those are all those things that are
Speaker:fantastic and that you love about yourself and what how you feel and what you
Speaker:put out there. And then everything that you don't like, those are the
Speaker:struggles. Right? And it's not about
Speaker:highlighting good, bad. It's saying here now I have a template
Speaker:for what makes me feel good so I know what I can do more of,
Speaker:and here is where I can work on that and carry that over. So it's
Speaker:a really powerful exercise in understanding that our homes
Speaker:are metaphors for our lives. If you do nothing
Speaker:else, then at any moment that you feel like you need sort
Speaker:of a a life revival, we'll call it, just walk into a room
Speaker:and start first impressioning everything. What does that make me think of? How does
Speaker:that like, what are those first hits? And then you can decide, is
Speaker:that good enough for me? Is that something that I like the way the story
Speaker:is being told? Do I appreciate that? And if not,
Speaker:or if you find that you have more things that you're not appreciating versus the
Speaker:things you do, audit out some of those things. Like, really give the
Speaker:stuff that makes you feel good and bold and happy and
Speaker:whatever it is that you wanna feel. Give those the best geography in
Speaker:your space. I love that. I did that exercise in my head as you
Speaker:were saying it, and, woof, definitely was more
Speaker:impactful than one would think for how straightforward that was. So thank you so
Speaker:much for sharing that. Now, if everyone is wanting to dive
Speaker:more into Feng Shui, where are the best lists to find
Speaker:you, your services, where you hang out, and your
Speaker:offerings? I know you have a book. You have a podcast.
Speaker:Yeah. So I tell people the best place to check me out is either listen
Speaker:to House Therapy the podcast. Those are episodes that are about 15 to 20
Speaker:minutes. They drop every Tuesday, so super simple way to start wading in.
Speaker:And then Instagram. I take Instagram to its, you
Speaker:know, character limit. So you're getting a lot of information,
Speaker:you know, that you can just scroll through. There's a lot of tips. There's
Speaker:just a lot of use useful, practical, you know,
Speaker:user friendly, suggestions there. I would subscribe to my
Speaker:newsletter if you want something coming to your inbox. You can do that over at
Speaker:simple shui, simpleshey.com. And then over
Speaker:there, you can look about my services and courses. I have a course, become
Speaker:your own feng shui consultant. That is a 6 week
Speaker:self study course, but it takes you through the fundamentals and basics. And once a
Speaker:month, we meet for a q and a. And then from there, there are other
Speaker:courses and programs that you can do, but that's usually the entry level.
Speaker:And then, yeah, my book, Simple Shui for Everyday. It's 365
Speaker:ways to feng shui your life, but it's not calendar sensitive. You can
Speaker:really grab and go, and it's something you come back to over and over. It's
Speaker:the kind of tips that I was really craving when I was going
Speaker:into Feng Shui. I wanted the things that I could do while managing
Speaker:littles in my house Yes. Not needing to have to
Speaker:understand a lot of other concepts. So it is a great beginner's
Speaker:guide. I love that so much. All of those are going to be linked in
Speaker:the notes. And, Amanda, thank you so much
Speaker:for such a powerful, magical episode. I
Speaker:I'm inspired, and I know I'm going to be working on over the weekend
Speaker:and probably spending some time each weekend working on because I know it
Speaker:it's just such a good reminder of how much better I feel when I
Speaker:when I'm happy with my spaces. Yeah. And when I I feel
Speaker:comfortable and welcome and clear.
Speaker:Yeah. I mean, listen. It's like when you don't have the
Speaker:distractions, you're just that much more available, and here's the
Speaker:part, the money part, receptive to what's trying to get to
Speaker:you. Absolutely. I love that so much. So
Speaker:thank you. Thank you for taking the time
Speaker:for this and for our listeners and for the conversation. I I
Speaker:couldn't be more appreciative. Oh, well, thank you for having me. It was a great
